Sony Announces NEX-7 Interchangeable Lens Camera

 

Sony has just announced the new NEX-7 digital camera, the latest in the compact interchangeable lens lineup. Like the new a77 and a65 DSLRs announced today, the NEX-7 boasts a 24.3-megapixel Exmor APS HD CMOS image sensor, which paired with Sony’s BIONZ image processor should result in what Sony says will be “flawless image and HD video quality with very low noise and exceptionally fast shooting responses.” The NEX-7 also features “an intuitive new TRINAVI control interface,” which gives more advanced photographers the option of  “three customizable, manual controls and the ability to create images with the flexibility and precision of an advanced DSLR camera.”

The Sony NEX-7 will be available in November in a kit with an exclusive black 18-55mm zoom lens for about $1350, or as a body-only for about $1200.  See the full press release from Sony below.

Sony Announces Two New Alpha Series DSLRs

 

Sony has just announced two alpha series DSLR cameras: the a77 and a65, which are the latest in Sony’s Translucent Mirror Technology lineup. According to Sony, “these new cameras [are] the fastest, most responsive interchangeable lens cameras in their class, [and] set new performance benchmarks that even professional DSLRs have yet to achieve. ” Each features a 24.3-megapixel Exmor APS HD CMOS image sensor, and the a77 boasts the “world’s fastest continuous autofocus (AF) shooting performance (among DSLRs in Aug 2011), capturing a burst of full resolution, 24 megapixel images at 12 frames per second with full-time phase-detection AF.” Additionally, the α65 has a 10fps shooting speed.

Both the a77 and a65 feature a new OLED Tru-Finder viewfinder, which has the advanced capability to adjust exposure, white balance and other settings in real-time. Sony says, “Photographers can also make fine focus adjustments via a zoomed-in portion of the image.”

The  α77 Translucent Mirror interchangeable lens camera will be available in October in a kit with the new SAL1650 f2.8 lens for about $2000, and offered as body-only for about $1400.  The α65 Translucent will be available in October in a kit with a standard 18-55mm lens (SAL1855) for about $1000, and offered as body-only for about $900. Nikon Announces Rugged COOLPIX AW100 Digital Camera

Both Olympus and PENTAX have been playing the extreme-camera game for years, challenging the earth’s elements on behalf of adventurous photographers with rugged cameras like the Olympus Tough TG-810 and PENTAX Optio W90. Finally, Nikon has joined in on the fun with the just announced COOLPIX AW100, a waterproof, freeze proof and shockproof compact camera that features full High Definition (1080p) video recording, a 16.0-megapixel backside illuminated CMOS image sensor, and a 5x wide angle NIKKOR ED glass lens (35mm equivalent of 28-140mm). The AW100 also has a GPS function and internal map display, which allows photos to be “displayed via location information and saves latitude and longitude information in the image data,” according to Nikon.

The COOLPIX AW100 will be available in early September for an estimated $379.95. Read the full press release from Nikon below.

Canon Announces Three New PowerShot Digital Cameras

Canon has just announced three new PowerShot digital cameras: the PowerShot SX150 IS, the PowerShot ELPH 510 HS (which Canon says is “the world’s thinnest digital camera with 12x optical zoom and a 28mm wide-angle lens”) and the PowerShot ELPH 310 HS. With these petite digicams, Canon is boasting about the zoom, the low-light capabilities and the high speed burst shooting mode. The 510 HS and 310 HS also record full (1080p) High Definition video, and the SX150 IS features 720p HD video. To combat noise in low-light shots, Canon has introduced the “HS SYSTEM,” which “combines a 12.1-megapixel, high-sensitivity CMOS sensor and DIGIC 4 Image Processor to enhance image quality in low-light settings. The HS SYSTEM also reduces noise at high ISO speeds and expands the camera’s dynamic range to allow for greater detail and color when shooting in darker settings” in the PowerShot ELPH 510 HS and ELPH 310 HS.

The PowerShot SX150 IS will be available at the beginning of September for an estimated $249.99. The PowerShot ELPH 510 HS will be available at the beginning of October for an estimated $349.99. Over 150 Million Photos Shared on Instagram

 

Instagram, a favorite photo sharing app of the creatively inclined iPhone user, has recently reached the 150,000,000 photo mark. Since its launch in the App Store in October 2010, Instagram has had over 7 million international users join in on the photo sharing fun. Whether they’re sharing their lives with family and friends, or vying for a spot on the Popular Page, these users have now collectively shared over 150 million snapshots.
