Olympus has announced the compact new SP-810UZ digital camera, which they’re billing as a perfect travel camera because of its compact size and powerful zoom range. With a wide 42-864mm (35mm equivalent) zoom lens and a 36x optical zoom, the SP-810UZ has “the best zoom performance Olympus has ever delivered,” according to the company’s product manager. It is also “one of the smallest compact cameras currently on the market with a zoom of 36x.” The SP-810UZ will be available in September for an estimated $329.99. See the press release below for more details.

Sony has announced the Cyber-shot TX55 point-and-shoot with a 3.3-inch wide angle touchscreen, 16.2-megapixel CMOS sensor and “amazing 3D image” capture. The TX55 also features something that Sony is calling “By Pixel Super Resolution” technology, which “boosts the cameras’ [5x] zoom range to a virtual 10x without losing quality at the image sensor’s maximum resolution.” The camera also comes packed with a “Picture Effect” mode, which sounds similar to the creative art filters we’ve seen in many other manufacturers’ models, with options like: HDR Painting, Rich-tone Monochrome, Miniature, Toy Camera, Partial Color, Pop Color and Soft High-key. The Sony Cyber-shot TX55 will be available for an estimated $350.00 in September. See the press release from Sony below.
